In these turbulent times, we could all use some of the unity and one-world outlook that the Olympics can provide. The Rio Summer Games came and went and we wanted to do something fun (and funny) to honor the international athletes who will be competing this year in Rio de Janeiro. Our original Olympic icons, “Round In Rio,” get into the spirit of things, with their circle-based bodies inspired by the globe-spanning event itself – it’s a kind of playful reverse image of those sinewy worked out physiques.
The graphics we designed exemplify the duality of visual possibilities, bridging the conflicting ideologies of incredibly fit and athletic silhouettes (often associated with the different category breakdowns), with a modern, fun look at the possibility of all body shapes personifying Olympic contenders.
They are colorful, summery and invoke individual sports such as diving, track, weight lifting and more. We posted them on Instagram during the two weeks, plus created special animated GIFs on Facebook, as well as limited edition posters from the reputable printing pioneer, Mama Sauce.
