It tells a simple but elegant story, in rhyme (hat tip to Dr. Seuss), about young Joaquin’s trip through the jungle, and all the animals he encounters there (with a little basic counting of numbers thrown in too). We created stylized color-saturated illustrations that are eye-catching – even if you’re an adult.
With the use of clever shapes, textures and patterns, we’re sure Luisa’s own little Joaquin will enjoy hearing about the butterflies, elephants, toucans and tigers for many months to come. It’s a visual feast of flying, ferocious and furry creatures that both teaches about nature and is designed to capture a child’s imagination.
Designer Kathie Baptista spearheaded this unique illustration project. “I knew I wanted to create illustrations that were visually very bold, happy, and playful, while also being very minimal and geometric. I wanted to create something that was fun for kids but also visually engaging for adults as well,” Baptista said.
“With this style of illustration it was a fun challenge to try and create animals using as few shapes and graphics as possible,” she added. “As a designer, it makes you really dive deep into the physical characteristics of certain animals and identify what makes them unique, then translating those characteristics into a clean child-friendly graphic.”
