Highlights No Lowlights in 2018

By JACOBER CREATIVE

The year’s been good to us at Jacober Creative, so we wanted to sum up the highlights for you (we’ll ignore the lowlights). We traveled for clients (New York, Austin & Los Angeles); we won some awards (for our Surfside marketing campaign) and threw some fabulous parties. Listicles are in our DNA, so it’s hard to resist creating one about our own work. The world might be going crazy, but in our little oasis of creativity, things are still fun and oh-so-Miami.

Home Is Where the Heart (and Lincoln Road) Is

Lincoln Road has always been our home. It’s an ever-evolving Miami icon. While we’ve spent many years at the Sterling Building, we recently packed up and moved (two blocks east) to Lincoln Center. Both bigger and better, it’s our new home away from home. We had a great open house with DJ Adora decked out in drag and spinning disco, and Jacober Creative friends and partners stopped in to check out the chic and unique digs. Of course, a party ain’t a party without vegan treats, and ours came courtesy of Chef Chloe.  For those of you reading this and who have been on this journey, thanks for your support and looking forward to changing up your fonts for the new year.

New Kids on the Block

We welcomed two new designers to our team this year. Nicole, a Texas girl transplanted to our steamy metropolis, who loves tacos, sunsets and traveling, and Kathie, Miami born and raised, who loves sleeve tattoos, the Beatles and (of course) her job at Jacober Creative. They are bringing their unique creative talents and perspectives to the work we do. We love incubating and nurturing young talent at Jacober Creative, and we’re excited to have them on board. Combined they bring to our team at Jacober Creative their skills in illustration, typography, photography and video editing. If you like Piña Coladas, you’ll love Kathie and Nicole.

You Just Got Served!

We don’t want to brag (too much), but we have to admit that the new brand identity we created for Miami Beach’s Flamingo Park Tennis Center is perfectly on point. It’s playful, retro-but-contemporary, and incorporates a flamingo by design. The new logo and brand identity really brings this Miami institution into the new century, an update to go along with the Center’s own complete remodel. And that’s a Grand Slam!

If You Build It They Will Come

We’ve spent these past 12 months partnering up with Plaza Construction, a New York-based construction leader with significant projects all over the East Coast. You can’t avoid seeing their construction signage in almost every Miami neighborhood. And, with a new parent company, their brand is going global. Our work started with a complete brand overhaul that reimagined everything from their mission and vision statements, tagline, website, and of course, logo (which is still under wraps). And naturally, that spread into some other interesting production opportunities spanning photography, videos, and drone footage. Follow them on social @PlazaBuilds (we’re doing all their online presence too) to be the first to see the new brand reveal!

Resting Beach Face

For this year’s Surfside Tourism campaign we wanted to emphasize the town’s inherent wellness and fitness opportunities while still highlighting Surfside’s casual elegance. With this in mind, “Fit for Families and Fabulous for Everyone” was born. We ran with the new slogan in our ad campaign that spanned stylish photography (both above and underwater) and short videos (see them on @visitsurfsidefl). It featured a glammed up couple, a cute kid, and a scene stealing cockatoo (affectionally known as Pancha), all awash in the laid-back sand-in-your-shoes style we’ve developed for this client. And to cap it off, in a highly competitive bidding process, Surfside awarded us a new three-year contract to continue creating their long-term strategic marketing goals. S’hell yeah!

And The Envelope Please . . .

This year, the Florida’s Governor Conference on Tourism was held in Orlando on September 12 and we donned our red carpet attire and braved the Visit Florida spotlight to pick up three awards on behalf of the Town of Surfside. A “Henry” (aka Gold), a Bronze, and last but certainly not least, a “Best in Show” were awarded for our work on the Town of Surfside’s Uptown Beachtown campaign. For 2018's Flagler Awards, the Town of Surfside was recognized under two categories: 1. Social Media Marketing and 2.) Resource / Promotional Material. The winning pieces were the “Wish You Were Here” Video and complementary 360 Videos + the marketing material we developed under the Uptown Beachtown photo shoot shot over one very busy (and steamy) summer.

We Heart Listicles

Whether it is a guide to the Design District (applauded by its visionary re-developer Craig Robbins himself), Swim Week, Lincoln Road’s Finest or Art Basel, we gave Gwyneth a run for her money this year. Listicles, silly as that word can sound, when paired with some thought-provoking graphics, are kind of our thing.

Jacober Gives Back

Given the state of the world today (you know who and what we mean), it’s more imperative than ever to give something back to the community. We were happy to contribute our creative acumen to two very deserving non-profit organizations: the groundbreaking visual arts center Locust Projects, rebranding them for their 20th Anniversary, and Voices for Children’s annual fundraiser rebranding. Doing good feels good, and well, does good!

Teachable Moments

Mentoring the next generation is always something we support. This year we hosted students from the University of California (PA) and some budding local talent through AIGA, to come visit our offices, observe what we do, talk with our team, and hopefully get a head start on planning their own career paths. Oh yeah, and advise then not to use Comic Sans on their resumes! Thank you, next.

In Full Bloom

Frangipani, everyone’s favorite Wynwood one-stop shop for the coolest of cool gifts, got a little refresh this year from Jacober Creative. New graphics and a new social media presence helped make this project one of our favorites. From unicorns to mermaids, and rainbows to records, it continues to be our beloved gem in Miami and thanks to us, it’s never been more Funky, Fresh & Fun (yes, we tagged that).
